Mellott Manufacturing Design Engineer
Job Scope:
Coordination of all activities to bring project from signed contract to finished product, which includes the coordination of engineering, shop, field, shipping, and installation. Proficiency with Solid Edge, CAD software and Microsoft Office applications will greatly assist in performing this job properly.
Essential Duties:
- Mechanical / Structural Design of Conveyor Systems. Primarily log and lumber handling equipment.
- General Arrangement (Layout) Drawings for Multiple Integrated Systems
- Check Shop Drawings for Accuracy, Consistency of Design and Manufacturability
- Detailing of Parts as Needed
- Coordinate with control engineers for proper operation of equipment
- Ensure Safety Through Conscientious Design
Secondary Duties:
- Maintain a clean work space
- Collaborate with other associates across different departments
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency with primarily Solid Edge and CAD Software
- Demonstrated Knowledge of industrial components such as gearboxes, bearings, roller chain, structural steel shapes, etc.
- Interpersonal Communication – Relationship Building
- Attention to Detail
- Critical Thinking
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Design or Mechanical Engineering
Practical industry experience would be considered. 3-5 years of hands-on, verifiable, to substitute for formal education requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Individual must be prepared for:
Sitting - 75% of shift
Standing - 10% of shift
Walking - 10% of shift
Work will primarily occur in the office environment. Personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, ear plugs/muffs, and steel toe boots, are required in the fabrication shop.
